Night 53 ~ Shelter 127

Today is all about privacy. At least my thoughts are revolving around it and how it relates to the Shelter. I think one of the worst parts about living in the shelter is that there is so little privacy. I can’t imagine how hard it must be in Haiti. At least I get time alone when I am driving…something that probably isn’t true in Haiti.

You see, there are just 2-3 of us most nights, but there is always at least one other person with you in the Shelter. When you are homeless or living in a shelter, you never have any privacy. The person staying with you knows what time you came in, what time you wen to bed…how many times you rolled over in your sleep. They hear what you are saying if you talk in your sleep…sometimes they record what you are saying if you talk in your sleep. Continue reading

Night 46 ~ Shelter 127

Tonight I am joined by Joel, Zane, and Simon. It’s been a long day, but finally starting to wind down. It’s a bit chilly again, but nothing we can’t handle. I just hope we don’t have to cuddle for body heat anytime soon!

Night 45 ~ Shelter 127

It’s raining again tonight…and I just tore a pretty significant hole in our roof.

Everything (including me) is wet and the rain does not appear to be stopping. Continue reading

Night 43 ~ Shelter 127

It has been a while since I’ve written a new post, so I know it is long past overdue. It has been 43 nights as you can see. Last year we had our entire goal raised by night 40. This year, we are not even close to our first house, let alone a second house.

We find ourselves asking why…why are we so far away. More people know about it this year, we have a website you can donate at, T-shirts, wristbands, and we have even been on the news! We have done everything in our human abilities to reach our goal.

So why? Why the lack of success?

Has God abandoned us?

Did we miss God’s will?

Or, is He about to do something that we wouldn’t understand, even if He told us about it?

I believe that God wants to restore His will here on earth, just as it is in Heaven, and that He will do so through his people who are obedient to him.

Where is your place in God’s kingdom? Are you ready to do his will?

Come Holy Spirit, and show us your will. Open our ears and our eyes, so that we might understand. Prepare our hearts for you to show up miraculously, and may the glory be yours. Amen…

Night 27 ~ Shelter 127

Tonight we had another prayer time, followed by our first scripted video shoot!

During prayer I think God brought to mind a connection to make between the Haitians and scripture.

When God lead the Isrealites out of Eygpt, they spent 40 years in the desert before they were able to enter the “promised land”. During those 40 years, the entire nation lived in tents…similar to the way many Haitians are living now.

The trip didn’t need to be 40 years long, but because of sin in the lives of certain Isrealites, God chose to allow them to wander until they were ready to obey Him.

Perhaps this is what has happened to the nation of Haiti. God is calling them out of their slavery, and for a while God has brought them into a life of tents. Their sin has slowed them down (for example dictators who have stolen from the nation) but just as the Isrealites were provided for, God wants to provide for the Haitians as well. Perhaps God wants to meet their needs through His miraculous provision.

If we are the body (of Christ)…we should be meeting their needs.

Perhaps in this situation we can be the “manna” from heaven that sustains a nation for Gods glory.

We are focused on bringing homes to 2 Haitian families.
